Where the gold goes

A shop that starts the month with 4.000 g

None of these are theft. Each one is a small, ordinary, entirely explainable loss — and together they are why the physical count never matches the notebook at the end of the month.

Opening balance
4.000,0 g
−12,4 g

Fineness by eye

Different karats added as plain grams. The pure balance drifts a little with every mixed transaction.

−8,7 g

Workshop loss above tolerance

Sent for repair, returned lighter than agreed. Without a recorded tolerance, nobody argues it.

−6,1 g

Sold below the moved rate

The rate moved at 09:40, labels changed at noon. Every sale in between was priced on yesterday.

−9,3 g

Customer gold nobody chased

Deposited gold and instalments in a notebook only one person can read, and only in lira.

What it does

The whole shop measured in gold

01

Gram, fineness and pure stock

Every item carries its weight and fineness, and stock is held in both physical grams and pure gold equivalent. A mixed-karat stock produces a total that actually means something.

02

Rate-linked pricing

Selling prices calculated from the live rate plus labour and margin. When the rate moves, every label moves with it — not at noon, immediately.

03

Workshop tracking

Gold sent out and returned recorded with weight and fineness, with loss measured against the tolerance agreed with that specific workshop.

04

Customer gold accounts

Deposits, instalments and gold owed tracked per customer in grams as well as currency, because a debt in gold does not stay constant in lira.

05

Scrap intake and refining

Scrap gold recorded with fineness, converted to pure equivalent and tracked through to refining, so what left the shop and what came back reconcile.

06

Gold-based reporting

Profit measured in gold as well as currency. A business priced in gold cannot be judged in lira alone, especially in a month when the rate ran.

The conversion

Why 50 grams is not 50 grams

Three items, one total. Added as plain grams the answer is wrong by more than eight grams of pure gold — which at today's rate is real money nobody wrote down.

Questions

Frequently asked

01

Does it pull gold rates automatically?

Rates can be fed from a data source of your choice or entered manually, and prices recalculate either way. Which source is used is a commercial decision, so it is set per installation.

02

How is pure gold equivalent handled?

Every item stores weight and fineness, and the pure equivalent is derived rather than typed. This is what keeps a stock of mixed karats from producing a meaningless total.

03

Can we track gold sent to the workshop?

Yes. Outgoing and returning weights and fineness are recorded, and the difference is compared against the tolerance agreed with that workshop, so loss becomes a number rather than a discussion.

04

Are customer gold accounts supported?

Yes. A customer balance is tracked in grams as well as currency, which matters because gold owed does not stay constant in currency terms.

05

Does it work across branches?

Yes. Each branch holds its own physical stock while the pure gold balance consolidates centrally, and transfers between branches are recorded as movements rather than sales.

06

What happens on a day the rate moves sharply?

Prices recalculate from the live rate, so the shop is not selling on yesterday's figure until someone changes the labels. This is the single largest silent loss in a volatile month.

07

Can we still sell without internet?

The counter can operate on the last known rate and sync when the connection returns. What cannot happen is silently selling on a rate that is hours old without anyone being told.
